Burns Night Party, 25th January 2012 at Vinopolis

Those learned gentlemen at the Whisky Exchange are hosting a Burns Night party at Vinopolis, London’s premier wine centre.

The party takes place on the 25^th of January, which is of course Burns Night. Tickets are available from the Vinopolis website here

For those of us who are partial to a dram of Scotland’s finest product, the Whisky Exchange is a place of pilgrimage, being a huge treasure trove of single malt whisky, with prices and styles to suit everyone. We wrote about the Whisky Exchange before, you can find our earlier article here.

Burns Night at Vinopolis

The Burns Night Party promises to be a good one, with the following attractions;

A Whisky Cocktail on arrival
A three-course traditional Highland dinner, with Whiskys to complement each course
A Burns recital
A cabaret from the Scottish duo, Simply Whisky
A party, with dancing and late drinks

Michael Mann’s The Keep, BFI screening

Michael Mann has been on our radar recently. We wrote an article about his movies on the occasion of his birthday (here) and also wrote a review of his new movie Public Enemies (here).

Now the British Film Insttute is running two screenings of his rarely-seen early movie The Keep. If you want to see what the director of modernist thrillers like Heat and Miami Vice does with Carpathian castles, demons and Nazis then you can get tickets here. I have seen The keep and it is an interesting movie, with some truly evil moments. Even at this early stage, Mann’s stylistic vision was individual enough to stand out and make this a very different horror movie. It also has some bravura acting from Scott Glenn and Jurgen Prochnow.

Whisky Tastings for Burns Night

There can be no better way to celebrate Burns Night than to go to a Scotch Malt Whisky tasting.

Here are two taking place this coming Sunday 25th January and Monday, 26th January:

The first is held by the Scotch Malt Whisky Society at their clubroom in Greville Street, London. The tasting takes place at the civilised time of 14.00 till 17.00 on Sunday 25th. Non-members are welcome. Tckets are available here

The second is run by those walking encyclopaedias of malt whiskey, the chaps at the Whisky Exchange. We wrote about them here, and are still in awe of their knowledge and enthusiasm. The event takes place at Vinoplis at London Bridge, London and starts at 19.00. You can book tickets on 020 7940 8300 or through the website here

Nick Delaney photography; exhibition opens Monday 17th

The Langham Gallery in London are holding an exhibition of the work of photographer Nick Delaney. Nick is a fashion and style photographer who is beginning to make a name for himself in art photography. As you can see from these images (both of which are in the exhibition Nick has almost painterly eye for colour and composition. The image below, of street art in Barcelona, is a great example of this.

This exhibition of work is from his personal collection of Urban Landscapes taking in cities such as New York, Budapest and Madrid. These are beautiful and arresting images, with a real sense of place. One more image to whet your appetite, below.

The exhibition is at the Langham Gallery in Lamb’s Conduit street, recently featured in Monocle magazine as one of the best living community streets in the world. Nick’s work is clearly going to appreciate in value over the coming years, so here is your opportunity to invest while you can. Go, view and enjoy.
